On Feb. 23, the FHN boys and girls basketball teams competed against FHC in their annual senior night. The lady knights played first, losing a closely contested game 45-41. The only senior on the girls team Sami DuBay was a new transfer to FHN this school year.  All the kind words from teammates, coaches and family members while also coming so close to winning made the senior night one of DuBay’s favorite of the entire season.

“It was definitely a special night and I’ve felt so accepted since I joined the team earlier this year,” DuBay said. “The last time we played Central earlier this season we lost by like 30 points so it was really nice that we came so close to winning this time.”

Immediately after the girls played the boys basketball team picked up their second win of the season over Central in a 56-41 victory. Unlike the girls team who only had one senior, the boys had 11 seniors on the team this season. All 11 of their senior athletes got playing time and some even had  season highlights during the game.

“We got all of our seniors on the court and they all brought the energy and pulled out the win against Central in our last normal season game,” Head coach Larry Green said. “Nate Zanders also became our 2nd player this season to get a dunk so that was really cool to see.”

With the seniors final regular season coming to an end, both the boys and girls senior basketball players are looking forward to their final time playing in districts and possibly making it to state. Regardless of how the teams do during the postseason, the coaches hope the seniors remember the lessons they were taught during their time in North’s basketball program.

“I know they’re going to give it their all during districts and play to the best of their abilities,” Green said. “I hope I was able to teach them lessons that they can carry when they go into the real world,” Green said.
