Hall Sweeps

Earlier this year, a rumor spread that hall sweeps were returning.

It appears that the rumor is untrue…for now.
Hall sweeps, which were introduced in spring 2007, were a disciplinary tactic used by administrators to cut down on tardies. Whenever a student was late for class during hall sweeps, they were sent to the commons where they received a detention.
“[Hall sweeps] helped create a sense of urgency to get to the classroom,” Assistant Principal Ed Gettemeier said. “Once kids started getting to class late, we used hall sweeps to rectify the problem.”

There hasn’t been a need for a return of the hall sweeps yet because most students have been getting to class on time. However, there is a possibility hall sweeps could return if too many start becoming tardy.

“It would be a collective decision where all the faculty would decide on whether to bring hall sweeps back or not,” Gettemeier said.
