Unraveling Stride’s mega mystery

ponchebeat042910“Don’t reveal the secret flavor of new Stride Mega Mystery, or we’ll find you”. This message, written in bold white letters, appeared in Stride’s latest commercial about one of their newest flavors, Mega Mystery. Any attempts to reveal the flavor will, according to the ad, result in a ostrich beak to the chest of the revealer.

And while this ad does send a clear message to the American public, a brave few members of the Howell North publications staff stand in direct defiance of it today.

Once known as mere high schoolers, these gum liberators have risked life and limb to try this gum, decipher it’s flavor and yes, post their thoughts for all to see.

Liberator #1: “I think that this gum is a watermelon/citrus combination. At first, it tasted like a citrus flavor, but soon became too sweet to be a straight orange-lemon combo. The more I chewed, the more I realized it definitely had a hint of fruity-ness.” Kevin Beerman – 10

Liberator #2: “From the second I put the gum in my mouth, I knew it was the mandarin orange flavor. Orange has always been my favorite flavor of gum, so the second I tasted it, I knew that there was no doubt that the deliciousness I experienced was orange.” Ryan Firle – 12

Liberator #3: “My first thought on the mystery flavor was that it had to be tropical. I definetly tasted pineapple, but I knew that wasn’t the only thing there. I could definetly taste some citrus, but at the same time I thought I tasted a hint of berry coming through. By the time the gum started to lose it’s flavor, I still couldn’t make up my mind, which is why I think the mystery flavor is called berryitrusapple.” Logan Ponche – 11

Liberator #4: “I believe the mystery flavor gum is indeed strawberry lemonade. I think this because there is a heavy taste of lemons but with a dash of strawberry. The flavor is different but very good!” Danielle Yuede – 12
