Encouraging Notes in Girls Bathroom

A note the girls bathroom from an unknown author.

For the past few months there has been a different kind of writing on the stall doors in the girls bathrooms. It’s not your average “Brittany loves Jake” or “Jen was here.” It’s encouraging comments like “Stay Strong” and “You’re worth it”. It’s comments like these that make me feel good.

There was a note that was written on the plastic sheet protecting StuCo’s Toilet Talk and it said StuCo doesn’t write notes for the girls who eat their lunches in the bathrooms, we do. That’s when I first realized that whoever “we” is had a point.

When someone is having  a bad day, they don’t want a list of events that are coming up, they want something to make them feel better.  While some people think they are considered graffiti, I happen to think they are great.

Some tend to think that writing on anything but paper or a smartboard is vandalism. We, as students, are often reminded by our school officials not to vandalize the school. I don’t think this should be considered vandalism because these messages are encouraging people who are having a rough day.  The notes are a friendly reminders that makes the person reading them feel like someone cares even though they aren’t meant for anyone specific. When I walk into the bathroom I like reading notes that give me a little confidence.

In every high school movie they had the girl eating lunch in the bathroom feeling bad about herself, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Even if it only helped one girl get through the day, I feel like it’s worth it.
