Francis Howell North Varsity Hockey team kicks off the first round of playoffs tonight. The Knights play Lutheran South and are on the road to win the Wickenheiser Cup. Coach Paul Bremmer has faith in his team, and believes that the boys need to work on a few things to take on South’s exceptional goalie.

“In order to win against South, we need to work on taking care of our zone first and play good team defense and we must shoot and get lots of traffic in front of their goalie. He is one of the top 3 goalies in the St. Louis area and probably the top in the mid states,” Coach Bremmer said.

The team not only has to worry about South’s goalie, but two other games in the first round of playoffs. The team will be taking on Duchesne on Saturday at 8:30 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. The final game of the first round of playoffs will be played at Hardees’s Ice Rink against Eureka on Monday at 9:00. In order to go into the next round of playoffs, they must win at least two out of the three games. The team has been working hard to clench every one of these games.

“We’ve been working on our power play and penalty killing a lot. Plus positioning in the defensive zone and different breakouts,” Bremmer said.

Senior Cody Pingleton thinks that the team will do well in the first round of playoffs. Cody’s favorite part about his team is the determination even when they haven’t been doing so well.

“I think we will do well. We have beaten two of the three teams we play,” Pingleton said, “We will try our best to win, even though we haven’t been doing our best.”

Tonight’s big game will be held at the St. Peters Rec-Plex at 9:00p.m.
