On Jan. 22, the freshmen girls basketball team took the courts against Francis Howell at 4:30 at home.
“‘I’m really nervous before games but once I start warming up I’m perfectly fine,” Samantha Alexandra said.
At the first whistle Howell won the tip off and scored the first 2 points of the game. Recovering quickly the Lady Knights tied the score up within the next few seconds. The Lady Knights gained the ball and scored another six points while Howell scored four more points leaving the score 8-6 at the end of the first period. By the second period the girls made many baskets as a result of effective press breaks. By halftime the score was 15-18. Coach Dan Lamb quickly briefed the girls on their plays and encouraged them to play their hardest.
“I wish we could have done our press breaks a little better than we did,” Ann Heitman said.
As the second half of the game started, the Lady Knights began to lose their control. Howell started to get baskets left and right. The Lady Knights tried to catch up but by the end of the game the Knights lost with a score of 24-41.
“We could havve done way better but we still tried really hard,” Alexandra said.
The Lady Knights next game is against St. Charles West on Jan. 24 at 4:30 p.m. at home.
“As a team I feel like we’ll do really well against West,” Heitman said. “I know I can’t win a game alone. It takes more than one person to win.”
