“Triple 9” Movie Review

triple-9-aaron-paul-poster“Triple 9” is the story of a handful of dirty cops pulling off their biggest heist yet after being blackmailed by the Russian Mob to steal information about a man they want. A virtually impossible job, the team needs as much time as possible. They decide to commit another crime to distract other police officers from their main target. The group is forced to pull off a 999, police code for officer down. The 999 will give them around ten extra minutes, but all the cops in the city would be after them after that 10 minutes. With no choice, the crew plans for the 999 and decide they’ll take out officer Chris Allen (Casey Affleck) to buy them enough time.

This film was a little difficult to follow, due to so many traitors, fake cops, and people who aren’t who they claim to be. There was an amazing opening scene, showing the first heist in a bank downtown. With lots of action, blood and gunshots, it really made you get into the film right off the bat.

What I admired about this film the most was the cinematography. There were a lot of creative shots with perfect composition and really showed emotion the characters were experiencing throughout. With a somewhat confusing story line, I payed more attention to camera work and audio. Being a lower budget film than others, I was very impressed to see really good camera work and great use of other technical things. Overall I give this film a 6.5/10.
