What I’m Interested In: Playing an Instrument

I enjoy playing an instrument because it has opened the door to many different opportunities. Whether I’m part of the marching band or performing a solo, playing the trumpet has given me a new sense of purpose, an opportunity to express myself. It has provided me the chance to make many new friends within the band program, while also strengthening the bonds with old friends. It teaches one how to speak another language essentially, and that language can be beautiful. In essence, playing an instrument really helps one learn many things that nothing else can quite do.

I think more people should consider being part of the band. There are many different options of instruments, so there is bound to be one that fits any type of person. Music can strengthen the mind, while also providing an outlet for emotion. It is a wonderful thing when taken seriously, and if more people learn how to play an instrument, the more people can grow as individuals.
