What I’m Interested In: Twenty l One l Pilots

A little over a year and a half ago, I stumbled upon an app called 8 Tracks where people can put up various playlists of different types of music and categorize it by mood, artist, or genre. I was just getting used to the app and how it worked and ended up spending a lot of time looking through playlist after playlist until I came across one titled “Music For Your Brain.” It caught my eye so I gave it a listen and liked what I heard but I wasn’t absolutely head over heels for it. That was until a song titled Migraine came on. The lyrics in the song connected with me and helped me in a way that I wasn’t really aware music could and, because I easily obsess over things, I engulfed myself in the band. After listening to their other music and hearing their story I had a newfound respect for their dedication to helping others and the message they were sending. These two guys had taken a mutual passion for music and ran with it, having nothing to start with and trying to make a name for themselves out of their hometown of Columbus, Ohio. This band has helped me through many of the difficult situations life has presented me and taught me to look for purpose wherever I can. I am lucky enough to have gone to two of their live shows, one on halloween of 2015 and their latest St.Louis show over the summer, and it is like no other performance I have ever experienced. They put everything they have into what they do and even through the course of their gaining popularity they make sure to connect with their dedicated following.
