The angry villagers sing on the steps of the gazebo. Many newcomers watched them perform many songs for the festival. Everyone was amazed by their voices.

Main Street St. Charles Holds Legends and Lanterns Festival

Published: October 31, 2017

Legends and Lanterns is a festival that occurs on Historic Main Street where people from the community will dress up as legends and tell their story about what occurred when they were once alive. Festivities include a hayride through halloween history, face painting and receiving stickers from the legends and ghost through a little book known as your passport.

“Yes, I love it because it’s really fun and the people are great and I love bonding time,” Festival attendee Jace Young said.

The festival separated from the Christmas festival last year, and is in it’s second year as a stand alone festival. Since last year they’ve added 10 more legends to the whole event and many people have came to love it. Especially when the angry villagers had their time and sang songs to the kids and adults who cared to listen and watch. When on the hayride there’s a woman who tells stories about the history about Main Street.

“Awesome! The most fun you could have in the cold weather, if you have to be outside in the cold might as well have fun with the legends,” said Holly Unger.

The festival was last weekend and this weekend and last from noon-5pm/6pm on Friday and Sunday and 11am to 8pm on Saturday. They found the inspiration from the past and how they’ll bring forth the rituals and customs from the 1910s-1930s era in ways of ghost stories and fairy tales.

Jace Young mentioned, “Yes, I love it because it’s really fun and the people are great and I love bonding time.”

“I really didn’t have a choice, they just brought me here it was magic. I was happy I was in my little house and boom I ended up here I don’t know why. Why wouldn’t I want to be apart of this event besides the fact that it’s cold, I don’t like it here there’s too many people.” said the gingerbread witch.
