After much anticipation the night before, students woke up on Feb. 18 to a snow-covered street and an actual snow day.
“I really like the fact that we have a snow day because I had a volleyball tournament that was three days long and I was really tired after that, so I’m glad we didn’t have school today,” junior Olivia Abeln said.
According to the National Weather Service, the Winter Weather Advisory is back and is continuing until 6 a.m. on Wednesday. This afternoon, a 40% chance of snow is expected with a high of 13 degrees Fahrenheit. The chance of more snow continues over to tonight where an 80% chance of precipitation before 2 a.m. is possible. With temperatures supposed to get down to 8 degrees, new snow accumulation of around an inch is possible.
“I think it’s more we needed to have the day off because the roads weren’t going to be very safe because of how icy or slick it could have been,” junior Samantha Slunaker said. “At my house, there’s snow covering everywhere, but it’s a very small amount of snow. It’s just really cold.”
All grade schools in the district, as well as Preschool, Vacation Station and any clubs or activities are closed today. Without the ability to use this day as an Alternative Methods of Instruction day, the last day of this school year is Monday, June 2. Any additional snow days will also push back the end of the school year.
“I just don’t like it because now we are going to have another day of school that we’re going to have to make up,” Abeln said. “I really don’t want to make it up because I think the length of school already is long enough, so not having an AMI day is just awful, even though I’m glad I don’t have to do any of the work.”
