With many genres to choose from, crime fiction or true crime seems to be many people’s default and favorite genre. Though it’s a well-known genre, many people don’t have any idea what to watch or where to start. That brings on the thought of what the best show is.
“[The best show] is Law and Order, SVU specifically,” senior Cloei Evans said. “I feel like it’s the perfect show. Detective Benson and Stabler are the perfect duo, and I’ll probably watch it on repeat for the rest of my life.”
Law and Order: SVU is a show where they solve cases, specifically assault cases that may happen in real life, but that isn’t the only show like that.
“I like to watch Criminal Minds,” senior Rory Marable said. “I feel like Criminal Minds is more specific to forensic stuff kind of.”
Although many people like crime, it deters some away from shows like SVU because it has a serious aspect to it. However, there aren’t just serious crime shows.
“I would say you’re into comedy, go for Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” junior Kaili Melton said. “I like them because you get to see people have justice while also getting some [comedy] mixed in.”
Fictional crime shows are popular, for people who aren’t interested in fiction there are many other true crime options.
“I started watching [this show called] Monsters, which is about the Menendez brothers,” senior Bella Faulkner said. “I haven’t finished it, but it’s really good so far. I like the way they tell the story.”
In the crime genre, people can find a variety of shows that can be watched with everyone. This doesn’t exclude people who don’t have all these streaming services.
“I know on YouTube, I watch a lot of crime scenes and interrogation or like stories of true crime and the process of how it was [solved] and how it works,” Evans said.
