On the FHN’s softball field Jessica Gillen holds up her jersey for varsity on Sept. 21 to show her number. Gillen has been playing softball almost all her life, since she was five years old her parents would put her into little leagues. So she just decided to continue with softball and has loved it ever since.  “My parents wanted me to be active as a kid,” Gillen said.

A sudarshana chakra pressed into brass rests on the pillar standing outside the temple. The symbol, whose name translates to disk of auspicious vision in Sanskrit, is associated with Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu, who acts as the preserver of the universe in Hindu religion, utilizes the chakram (which translates to disk/discus) as his weapon.

Dividers stand up to ensure student privacy as they have their finger pricked and their blood tested. The small drop of blood determines if you have enough iron or any diseases. It also counts your hemoglobin to see whether it’s high enough to do a “double”. A double consists of donating double the amount of red blood cells while returning your plasma and platelets.

RSV is a virus that is common in infants less than two years old and adults over 65. The child and her father were transported to DePaul Hospital.
