Blue Swan Records has been making quite a name for themselves recently. They’ve been consistently releasing new information, music and even signing on new bands. Started in early 2013 by Dance Gavin Dance guitarist Will Swan, Blue Swan now has seven bands on their roster. These bands include Stolas, Sianvar, Eidola, Kurt Travis, Hail the Sun, Secret Band, and Adventurer. Stolas was the first band to be signed in January, and Adventurer just announced their signing on Aug. 5. Adventurer is managed by Kurt Travis.
“It’s kind of overwhelming that we got onto the label this early in our band’s life. We only played six shows before Kurt came to us wanting to manage us, and he ended up talking to Will about us because this label was definitely one we wanted to be on. It’s really cool to be on a label with some of your favorite bands.” Adventurer’s guitarist and vocalist Steven Christy said.
Aside from Adventurer being signed, Blue Swan has many other things happening right now. The Blue Swan Tour kicks off Wednesday, Sept. 3. Hail the Sun, Stolas, and Icarus the Owl will be playing and The Venetia Fair will be joining them on select dates. The tour will be making a stop at Fubar in St. Louis on Oct. 4.
“There’s honestly no way to prepare for the incessant mind-blowing that is going to ensue starting next Wednesday. There’s so much raw talent in those bands, so much emotion combined with musicality. It’s going to be unreal.” Hail the Sun’s guitarist and backup vocalist Shane Gann said.
Both Stolas and Hail the Sun have recently released new singles to get fans excited for their upcoming albums. Stolas’ album “Allomaternal” is set to release on Oct. 15 and Hail the Sun’s album “Wake” is set to release Sept. 23.The tracks have caused a lot of excitement and attention for Blue Swan. Aside from many fans expressing their love, even the other bands on the label think the songs are outstanding.
“Both of them are bangers! The Hail the Sun track is immaculate, Shane and Aric’s licks are especially mind boggling, and the new Carlo/Jason vocal mix in ‘Solunar’ makes me tingle inside. I love and respect all of those guys and I know that their albums will be nothing short of impeccable.” Eidola’s guitarist and vocalist Andrew Wells said.
The bands on Blue Swan Records all have very unique sounds and while some of their styles are similar, no two bands are alike. This keeps things fresh and fans never know what to expect when a new band is signed.
“We try to integrate with bands we consider serious and hard-working. A Lot Like Birds, Hail the Sun, Dance Gavin Dance, etcetera, all have members that exhibit so much drive and dedication to their craft. Take The Venetia Fair from Massachusetts: they have this wild and bombastic stage performance, but they’re probably the hardest working band I’ve ever met. So, it’s not really a question of ‘Well, what bands are cool and sound like us?’ but rather ‘What bands can we tour with that want it bad enough to do the work?’” Stolas’ bass guitarist RJ Reynolds said.
Being apart of Blue Swan Records is a different experience for every band, but they all say that it is like being a part of a family. They collaborate on each other’s albums and help promote each other’s announcements. It’s never a surprise when one band makes a post on Facebook about another one of the bands on Blue Swan.
“It’s like having a big brother that is really nice and gives us soda and candy whenever we want but then makes us wear dresses and makeup in front of his friends. In other words, it’s a dream come true.” Shane Gann said.
There are many ways for fans to show support for these bands. Liking and sharing their Facebook pages, purchasing their albums and merchandise at their shows, and downloading their albums off of bandcamp.com are all ways to show support.
