Since I was old enough to walk, I’ve been playing sports.


I’ve played basketball, soccer, softball, gymnastics, dance and I was on the swim team. Through the years, I’ve found which ones I like best and which ones I knew I was never going to be good at.

Now being in high school, I’ve played softball and have been on the swim team every year – except this year. This year, I quit softball. It was a very hard decision because I loved pretty much every aspect of the sport. I don’t know how I’ll feel about the decision in the long run, but so far I’ve been pretty happy about it. Changing up your regular routine can surprise you for the better. Just because you’ve always done something doesn’t mean you have to keep on doing it. If you’re afraid to make changes in your life, you’ll never be able to experience anything new.

I’m not sure how I’ll cope when swim season comes around, but now I know that I can’t be afraid to give up something I love in order to make room for other things I love. Making sacrifices doesn’t always have to be bad; it may be the best thing you can ever do.
