Simone dedicates his time to Varsity basketball

On the court or off the court. With the ball or without the ball. In the game or out of the game. Senior Zach Simone loves it all. Basketball isn’t the only sport Simone plays, but it is one of the sports he has continued to play during his high school career.

“I’ve played since I was eight years old,” Simone said. “My buddies played, which made me want to start playing and I just kept up with it sense.”

Simone played freshmen, JV, and Varsity during his high school career; however, he does not plan on playing at the college level. The college level is a lot more competitive and requires a lot of dedication. It is very time consuming, also.

“I don’t really want to play basketball [in college],” Simone said. “I want to play baseball though.”

Over the last four years, he has played baseball, basketball and football. He continues to play basketball and baseball, but no longer plays football. In the spring of last year, Simone played baseball at the Varsity level for the Knights. He hopes to play again this year and have colleges look at him.

During the summer he plays on the basketball team with all the guys from the North team. However, there are no coaches; the guys just get together and play for fun.

“I like playing on that team ’cause the atmosphere is very laid back, there are no coaches yelling at me and I can just kind of do my own thing and not have to worry about impressing the coaches,” Simone said.

Simone plays with a very big inconvenience. Although he plays very hard and his work shows, he has diabetes, which creates difficulties. He loves the game though and doesn’t let anything get in his way.

“My favorite thing about basketball is getting to know the guys and spend time with them,” Simone said. “And winning games of course.”
