Honors government students experience real sentencing

The honor government students in Mrs. Landman’s classes got to take a journey to the Eagleton Federal Courthouse. The students piled onto two buses and traveled for about thirty minutes to get down to the city. The students were greeted and separated into groups so they could perform their mock trial.

“I think it went great. Students did a great job and I appreciated all the effort that was put into making this a successful day.” Kim Landman said.

After the trial the students had a chance to see a real sentencing and how the judges actually deal with cases. The court clerks explained their roles and how they help the judges. Next was the Court of Appeals which showed where the three judges sit and vote on cases.

“The Court of Appeals and the sentencing showed us that these situations actually take place in real life and not just on T.V.” Junior Nina Flynn said.
