DECA helps with Operation Food Search Pantry

Starting Nov. 23, DECA will make a long lasting relationship with Operation Food Search Pantry (OFSP), through community service. Meeting after school at 4:30 p.m., a group of fifteen DECA members

will prepare for a long day of great deeds.

Jacqueline Sage is in charge on finding new community services for DECA. Late August, Sage began helping OFSP distribute collected foods to foster homes, where she got the idea “Why doesn’t DECA help with this?” On Tuesday, DECA’s goal is to distribute Thanksgiving dinners to as many families as possible.

“It’s just one of those nice things to do. They need a lot of help and we have a lot of people willing to donate their time. Once you do it, you feel good about having done it. Doing community service is a great way to give back,” said Mr. DeCiechi, DECA sponsor.

No Hunger Holiday prepares full meals for foster families across Saint Charles and are then distributed through OFSP. A full meal consists of turkey, corn, green beans, potatoes, stuffing, rolls, butter, cranberry sauce, milk, and apple pies. It’s all collected through organizations, agencies, and the community. It is No Hunger Holidays goal to make sure no person goes without food on Thanksgiving Day.

“I am very grateful that all children will be able to have a great meal for Thanksgiving and other people are willing to help them out if they need it. Thanksgiving is about recognizing what you have and appreciating it, and everyone should be able to sit down with their elders and eat together as a family,” said Jacqueline Sage, DECA Event Planner.
