The Counselor Parent Outreach Program helps to inform parents

The Counselor Parent Outreach Program takes place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on two Tuesdays every month. This program gives parents a chance to talk to the guidance counselors about a wide variety of topics outside of school hours. It is suggested that parents make an appointment with the counselors for this kind of guidance. The counselors hope to answer any questions that students or parents may have about the school.

“I guess it’s designed to make school a little more user friendly,” FHN guidance counselor Rachel Faulkner said.

As well as the one-on-one sessions, the counselors also hold informational evenings about different topics. For example, the counselors hold a financial aid night in which students and their parents can learn about different financial aid available for college. The counselors will also hold a night to explain Advanced Placement courses, Advanced Credit courses, Honors classes, and more. These evenings do not require any appointment, and are open to anyone.

“The evenings when we offer the guidance topics are the best for us because we get to reach more people on those evenings than when it’s one on one,” Faulkner said.
