The Rise of Dub Step

As of late there seems to be a craze with dub step. Dub Step is, according to UrbanDictionary.com, “a genre of music centered chiefly around bass.” Well, I’ve taken a listen and my first thought was that it sounded like a raver’s fantasy. You know what I mean: those heavy, pulsing beats that you hear at parties in movies, interspersed with strange sirens and odd industrial noises. But after listening to it for several hours, I started to realize that it is extremely catchy. Although it features very few words, the beats get lodged inside your brain. And it is probably the most danceable thing I’ve ever heard. You don’t even intend to start moving, you just do. One minute you’re cooking dinner, and the next you’re dancing around with a spatula.

My personal favorite artist in this genre would have to be Excision. It’s heavy, it’s grungy, and it’s all the about the beats. There are other artists you can also check out, including Skrillex, BassNectar, and Datsik. There are a ton of them out there. Despite what some people say, it’s much more than just noise. I’d suggest giving the genre a listen.

Please listen to real EDM before you call this stuff “danceable” or even remotely listenable. It is skill-less, and the joke of the EDM community.
