After almost a full school year of hectic work and nearing deadlines, a little vacation is wanted among many of the publication staff students. This vacation came in the form of a field trip to Webster University for a high school journalism conference. The students left school at 7:30 a.m. and were expected back at 3:00 p.m. that day.

“I went because I thought it would be a good chance to get away from the stress of the yearbook’s deadlines,” sophomore Tori Therrien said.

Although some needed the break as a little pick-me-up, others used it to better themselves.

“I learned a lot about social media because it brought a lot of things to my attention, like the things we do in social media,” junior Kevin Beerman said.

At the conference, students had the opportunity to choose one out of the three different session times. The sessions were taught by around 40 different speakers and included the subjects of design, writing, and publicity. At the end of the conference the student journalist participated in a write-off. Once the write off was over, awards were given out. The whole event not only showed what needed improving, it also showed how well publication staffs are doing.

“I learned that our publication staff is awesome. It made me realize that there is a lot of hardworking people on the other staffs,” senior Coleen Grone said.
