The Varsity Wrestling team participated in a tournament located in Cape Girardeau on Dec 16 and 17. This was a big tournament for the team, and it was a good way to start the season. The guys ended the first day of the tournament doing very well, placing in third out of 16 other teams in the tournament. This gave them confidence entering the second day.
“After the first day I thought we were doing great as a team, we only had one person that didn’t make it into the winners bracket,” junior Sean Small said. “A lot of our kids were feeling pretty confident going into the second day, we definitely felt it throughout the lineup and it made us want to do better on the second day.”
“We definitely didn’t do as good as we could’ve done, but it’s still early in the season and this is a building block for us,” sophomore Danny Goggin said.
There was one Knight who came in first in his weight class, Tyler Smith. Many of the other wrestlers placed in the tournament. Shawn Wielms and Brendan Hachtel placed third, Jeremiah Reed and Sean Small placed fourth, Danny Goggin, Sam Ritchie, and Robbie Springman placed fifth, and Ryan Clifton placed sixth.
