Work Program faces time crunch

During the junior enrollment presentation on Jan. 11, the Business and Marketing Work Program will have 10 minutes to explain their opportunity available to seniors while in past years they were allowed a whole period. Despite the short amount of time, the sponsors Joe De Ciechi and Angie Mason will try to talk about all the benefits of joining the Work Program.

“I think it may hurt us with the shortened time by not being able to explain Work Program and answer students questions, as well as hand out applications,” Mason said.

FHN’s Business and Marketing Work Program hosted an all-day-long presentation in the auditorium for juniors in past years. The juniors would go to the auditorium in their Social Studies class and the sponsors would have the whole hour to explain the opportunity the juniors would have to be in the Work Program during their senior year.

“One of the nice things about the Work Program is it’s good for kids who’ve fallen behind on credits or for kids who’re ahead and feel like they don’t need to be here all seven hours,” De Ciechi said.

However, Social Studies classes weren’t able to keep up with the required amount of time they’re supposed to teach students while allowing a class the day of the Work Program presentations and classes for whenever Guidance needed them.

“We thought they could use their avenues,” Social Studies teacher Mark Olwig said. “They used one of the Social Studies classes to promote their program, we’re just on a time crunch.”
