For the last couple of weeks, FHN Student Council had been hustling to sell tickets for the winter dance, Bright Knight, that was held this past Saturday February 4th. Although Bright Knight was said to be a success, the ticket sales disagreed.
“Student council sold about half of the amount of tickets sold for last year’s dance,” Student Council member Austin Wiedner said.
This year, Bright Knight barely sold 300 tickets, while last year’s winter dance sold almost 600 tickets. Student Council discussed why the ticket sales for 2012 were so low, and finally they came to a general consensus.
“I think the sales were not as good because prom tickets were on sale at the same time this year,” Student council president Ashlynn Laspe said. “Prom tickets were only 50 dollars at the time, so everyone wanted to buy those instead.”
Although StuCo experienced a slight fumble this year, they are ready to fix some advertising mistakes and be more successful next year.
“I think getting the student body more involved by sending out a poll asking students to help us name the dance will help advertise and prepare for the dance next year,” Laspe said. “It gets students thinking that the dance is coming up.”

I wouldn’t because this wouldn’t be an issue. Why weren’t ticket sales a problem the year before this? Or the year before? Or the year before? What’s changed, hmm?
All the other ways are so much less effective it’s not even worth trying.

The announcements are gone for now. Maybe pay more attention to all the other ways clubs are trying to reach out to us.
We were constantly reminded about the dance and the dance ticket sells. Some people just don’t want to pay attention. You’d say the same thing, even if the announcements were still around.

Wrong. They sold so little because pretty much no one knew about it in advance, whereas last week people were talking about it weeks before the week of the dance. When small pieces of paper on lockers are the only way to get this information out there, people tend not to take notice.
