New Werewolf Police EP is a Lo-Fi Triumph

This month, I stumbled upon this gem of an album by the Connecticut lo-fi indie rock band Werewolf Police. This is their second release, the first being a self titled full length effort. The EP presents an upbeat and vintage sound that is extremely memorable and re-playable.The album begins with “Jumbo & Slim”, an upbeat and melodic piece that grabs upon first listen. A powerful beat and catchy guitar riffs provide that simply awesome feeling of catchy 80’s tunes. This is a song I’ll be playing for a long time.“Vixens Phantasy” is more of a fast-paced surf rock track, with lots of chugging guitars and energy. Although it only runs at 1 minute and 55 seconds, it’s a perfect length to bridge the gap between two of the best songs on the album.“The Only One” is another total victory, It has a bittersweet sound that adds to the diversity of the album. Although more of a slow pop anthem, it’s just as good as “Jumbo and Slim”.“Gasoline Rainbows” is a darker, less melodic effort. It simply doesn’t fit in with the fast and poppy tracks at the beginning of the album, and takes away from the album as a whole.

“Personificate” is hidden amongst the tail end of the EP, with a more repetitive and noisy sound. A filler song, mostly.

This EP is probably my favorite new release of the year so far. Upon hearing the first three songs, I enjoyed it. It captures a sense of fun and blissfulness that I love hearing. So, I must award this EP, a 4 out of 5 stars.
