On Thursday March 1, band students will perform in a practice concert. During this practice concert, students have joined smaller ensembles that they will perform in, instead of the whole band performing as one group. Band does ensemble performances every Spring. The actual event where the students will be judged on an individual basis will take place later during March.

“[The March 1 performance] is like a preview to get the nerves out, it’s for the parents,” junior Laura Tran said.

The students have been practicing since December. There are more than 30 ensembles and at least three people in each group. Tran, who has been playing the flute for about seven years, is in a trio with two other flute players. They will be playing Menuett by Mozart.

“I don’t really like performing in front of people but I really want my honors point,” Tran said.

Junior Taylor Schumacher  is one of Tran’s ensemble partners and has been playing the flute for six years. Schumacher is a little nervous but thinks her trio will do great.

“My favorite part is that we get to work individually instead of with the whole symphonic band,” Schumacher said.

As the concert approaches, band students share their excitement and nerves. Senior, Megan Weber, has been playing the trumpet for eight years and will be performing in a quartet.

“I’m a bit nervous, but I feel that my ensemble is well prepared for it,” Weber said.
