Malkmus Named District Teacher of the Year

Superintendent Pam Sloan announced that Donna Malkmus has been named Francis Howell District Teacher of the Year in a faculty meeting today.

Though she maintained a humble composure while accepting the award, Malkmus was glowing afterward.

“I’ve always felt like such a bridesmaid thinking I’d never get it,” Malkmus said “It’s really an honor.”

She believes that her engagement with students inside and outside the classroom coupled with a polished application is the reason she won.

“I think that’s awesome,” Chemistry Student and Junior Nathan Rhomberg said. “She deserves it because she’s a really good teacher.”

Malkmus also helped Junior Smitha Milli qualify for the Junior Science and Engineering Symposium set for March 15-17.

“She puts in so much time and effort in everything she does with students,” Milli said. “Most teachers would not spend their time over spring break for a science fair with students.”

Malkmus now turns her attention to preparations for State. Whether she wins State Teacher of the Year or not, she will continue helping students excel in science.

“My satisfaction is knowing that in the end, it’s going to help them be a better student and a better person,” Malkmus said.
