Anatomy classes dissect pigs

Anatomy teacher Dawn Hahn points out certain organs to students.

On May 14, anatomy classes participated in a  lab where they dissected a pig. The classes have been studying the organs and their functions throughout the year and are now studying the reproductive system.

Some students found themselves becoming sick, while others enjoyed being able to see the organs during the lab. The students were able to cut open the pig and saw where all the organ parts are located.

“It was interestingly gross,” senior Savannah Teuscher said.“The anatomy of the pig was cool, but seeing the body parts was still gross.”

After cutting opening up the pig, the students were able to locate some of the main organs including the kidneys, heart and the reproductive organs.

“The lab helped me discover where everything is located in the body,” junior Marie Schumer said. “It was very gross but it was worth it in the end because it was a hands-on lesson about body organs.”

Anatomy teacher Dawn Hill believes the dissection was a good way to end the year.

“[This lab] pretty much puts together everything we’ve done the whole year,” Hahn said. “It shows all those organs and systems interconnected and how they depend upon each other.”
