Over 50 people auditioned for “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged,” debuting October 18-20. Only roughly 15 got a part. One of these parts belongs to senior Julia Carney.

“I wanted to try something new and be in a different theater program. They always put on really good productions and I thought it’d be nice to be a part of one,” Carney said.

Carney drives to DeSmet everyday after school and rehearses with the cast until around 6:00 p.m. Remembering her lines and reciting them perfectly takes a lot of time at home as well. It is safe to say Carney is dedicated to her acting career.

“Julia works hard at what she does. She has a passion for acting and she puts a lot of time into it,” Ms. Carney, Julia’s mother said.

Unfortunately Carney’s participation in the DeSmet play means that she will not be able to take part in FHN’s fall play. This realization brought some sadness but she was able to look at it in a positive way.

“I was a little upset at first but I know they’ll do a good job. I’m excited to watch their show and I wish them all the best!” Carney said.

Carney has been in 22 plays in her lifetime. She loves acting and performing and hopes to take her talents to a higher level someday.

“I’m hoping to make a career out of it if I can. That would be my ultimate dream,” said Carney.
