FCCLA Sponsors First Hat Day Of The Year

By Rima Patel

On Sept. 20, the Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) sponsored their first hat day of the year. To wear a hat you must pay $1, and wear a sticker all day. All the money raised went toward helping kids who couldn’t afford fifth grade camp.

“I think hat day was a great way to raise money for the kids, and I was glad to be a part of it,” Paisley Brown, a member of FCCLA said.

FCCLA sponsors a lot of hat days to help those in need for different causes.

“We hold a lot of hat days to help those in need in our community,” Brown said. “They’re just a fun and easy way to raise money for people.”

Students at FHN seem to agree that hat day is an event they look forward to.

“I really look forward to hat day because I have a ton of cute hats, and would love to wear them to school,” junior Gabriella Jones said. “The fact that we’re not allowed to wear hats to school everyday is silly.”

According to Becky Just, sponsor of FCCLA, this hat day raised approximately $210. Compared to years past, this is a very small amount.

“I don’t think this hat day went very well because not many people participated in it as I thought they would,” Brown said.

Hat day is a fun event to most people, but some feel like it needs to be held more often.

“I would definitely change the fact that we have only one hat every once in awhile,” Jones said. “If we had the option to wear hats at least twice a week, maybe the club would make a lot more money. It’s also super fun to see everyone wear their silly hats!”
