Girls Swimming Season Preview

On Nov. 12 the girls swim practice starts at the Rec-Plex. Their first meet is on Dec. 3 which will be an away tri-meet against Hazelwood Central and McCluer.

“[At the first practice] We do a lot of evaluation,” Coach Chip Crow said. “Who has experience, who knows what strokes.”

After losing 11 seniors from last year Crow hopes to see a lot of new faces. Around 20 girls attended the informational meeting held on Oct. 18 for the coming season. Crow is hoping for a team of 25 to 30 girls.

“It will be strange [after losing the last years seniors] because for the most part all those girls swam for me since they were freshmen.” Crow said, “ So we have to find people to step up and take their place in events and to lead the team.”

Because of the lose of 11 seniors, new girls will have to take on different events, like distance and more difficult strokes like butterfly and breaststroke.

“I don’t care for having late practices,” Lindsay Grzeskowiak said. “ Because i’m always  so tired the next day.”

Practice is from 8pm to 10pm every night. Some girls on the team find it hard to manage school, swimming and sleep. North is lower on the priority list for practice times at the Rec-Plex, because the Rec-Plex swim team, the Sharks, and the Fort Zumwalt schools get the top pick for practice times.

“I’m excited to meet everyone on the team they seem so nice and welcoming.” Kylee Moore said, “It’s always fun to be apart of something.”
