The Kettle Corner

The Kettle Corner in St. Peters is always bringing in customers by inventing new flavors to add to the menu. They make sure they are constantly popping the shop’s most popular flavors such as the Original Kettle Corn and the most popular “St. Peters Style,” a cheddar and caramel mix, which is a local version of the famous Chicago Style kettle corn.

“The newest flavor we’ve been experimenting with is a white cheddar and regular cheddar mix striped together,” Owner Shane Cox said. “Sort of like zebra stripes.” All of the flavors are original and modified to make sure The Kettle Corner has the best kettle corn it can offer. The menu is full of flavors with candies such as chocolates, caramels, Andes Mints, Reece’s, Heath Toffee and Orange Dreamsicles.

“The first time I took my friends there we didn’tknow what to expect,” said junior Paige Martinez. “We’ve already gone back a couple of times to try
new flavors.”

The Kettle Corner is a business Cox and his wife Mary had been conceptualizing since 2010. After spending the majority of his time working for corporations, such as Fox 2 News, Cox decided that it was time to settle down and start spending a little more time with his wife and children. He bought supplies Thanksgiving of 2010 and started
to pop the Original flavor kettle corn and a cinnamon flavored kettle corn at festivals and other charity events in March. Then he bought a space and set up shop in September. The building was originally used as a storage area for the business next door, but Cox and his friends set it up and designed everything so the shop gives off a cozy, oldfashioned feel. Grand Opening was on the day the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series, so the business and its menu exploded.

“The Grand Opening, October 28, was the biggest day we ever had,” Cox said. ”We spent all day running around the shop trying to catch as much of the game as we could.”

The Kettle Corner’s welcoming employees and at-home atmosphere makes this place a family favorite on top of using all fresh, natural ingredients in their popcorn. The popcorn is made in an oldfashioned style outside.

“It’s always really fresh,” frequent customer and freshman Megan Thielbar said. “The kernels pop bigger and fluffier than others, so you definitely know you’re getting your money’s worth.”
