Girls Swimming: First Tri-Meet of Season Recap

North’s Girls Swimming team made their way to Hazelwood Central High School on Monday Dec. 3 where they competed in their first meet of the season. It was a Tri-Meet against Hazelwood Central and McCluer high schools. Fortunately, North’s girls took home a win.

“I think it went pretty good, especially for being the first of the season,” Junior Megan Hampson said. “The new swimmers are good and they’re getting to know how meets work.”

According to Hampson, there are about 20 girls on the team and about 17 of them competed in the meet. For every race, each swimmer receives a certain amount of points based on the rank they finished in. To win, a team must receive 135 points, which is exactly what North’s girls accomplished.

“The best part was being able to win the meet and showing that our hard work paid off,” Senior Sami Ritter said. “Seeing the new girls’ faces when we won [was the most memorable part].”

In order to compete in the first meet, the girls had to attend at least 14 practices. Junior Rowan Pugh was sick with the flu and did not meet the requirement. Although Pugh was not able to compete, she still went to the meet and supported her teammates.

“I think our team did extremely well tonight for our first meet and we will just keep improving throughout the season,” Pugh said.
