FHN Beats SCW in Swimming Match

IMG_2182On Jan. 10 the girls swim team had a meet against St. Charles West; North swept SCW, and almost doubled SCW’s score, winning the meet 106-56.

Sophomore Clarissa Sandbothe said “I think we did amazing.”

Though North won most of their events with big leads, some races were fairly close. Sophomore Maggie Torbeck out-touched a SCW swimmer by less than one second in her 100 breaststroke. The FHN team won almost every event. Junior Megan Hampson won first place in all of her individual events such as the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. The girls also took first in all of the relays, including the 200 freestyle relay, the 200 medley relay, and the 400 freestyle relay.

Sophomore Lindsay Grzeskowiak said “It was a great meet for the team as a whole. We showed that we’re capable.” The team’s biggest challenge was having to accommodate to the longer and more shallow pool than they were used to. Because of the shallow pool, there was no diving portion.Torbeck said “I think the whole team worked really hard to adapt to the pool. I’m proud for all of us for doing so well.” This was a successful meet for the girls to follow their FZN Invitational meet and a good indication for their GAC meet in Feb. “They swam hard and did their best,” Team Manager Ben Moxley said, “and that just happened to get them a win.”
