Leave us the Pro Bowl Goodell

So, the National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell threatened to take away the Pro Bowl from the players and the fans (players take exception to Goodell). He said that it is “taking away from the integrity of the game” because the players don’t take it seriously enough and it isn’t competitive enough. I have a problem with this.

Why would you want to take away something that has been around for over 40 years, crediting players for their achievements throughout the season? Why would you want to take away something that is fun for the fans to watch? Why would you want to take something away that give YOUR NFL players a chance to get to know each other and so there isn’t so much bad blood during the season? These are all questions I think the Commissioner should have to answer.

There’s definitely no doubt that the intensity could be picked up a little, but taking it away is just isn’t a very good idea. It  almost the same thing as the NBA All-Star game, which is huge for the basketball viewers around the United States. They should be able to show off their talents that fans don’t get to see in everyday games and not have to worry about getting injured because the commissioner wants to see more intensity. The players enjoy playing in it and the fans enjoy watching it. Is that not what it is all about? If it gets taken away I think that many players and fans will lose all respect for him (the little that remains from prior decisions).

In this year’s Pro Bowl, players took exception to Goodell’s comments this past game playing harder than most years prior, so that he couldn’t take it away from them (Houston running back talks about pro bowl). For me as a fan I found it a lot less fun to watch than prior Pro Bowls because it was just things I have seen in any other game. Nothing special. There was no Drew Brees trying to drop-kick a field goal or anything fun like that. I think Goodell needs to stop being such a grinch and start letting more fun happen.
