Tuesday, March 19, is the first Track and Field meet of the season. North will be competing against Wentzville Holt. The meet is at North and starts at 2:30 p.m. when the athletes begin to warm up. However, events occur at different times. Both levels, Varsity and Junior Varsity, will be competing at the meet. Tickets cost $2 and are sold at the gate.

“I’m very excited for the first meet on Tuesday because I’d like to see how our team compares to other schools,” freshman Nicole Morse said.

Track and Field is a new experience for some of the athletes. Additional to the new upperclassmen to Track and Field, there are around 30 Freshmen this year on the team.

“We will probably do better against Holt this year because we have some really strong freshmen,” sophomore Dominique Meyer said.

Track and Field athletes have been practicing every weekday from 10:30-12:30 a.m. In order to build muscle, power, and endurance, the athletes have strength days. These occur a couple times a week, and they consist of exercises like push ups and agility training. Runners also have designated days to focus on either short or long distance running.

“I think our hard work in practice will give us an advantage against our competition because we have been working harder than the other teams out there and that will definitely pay off in meets,” Morse said.

Some runners have been preparing for the season since Christmas Break.

“I think the kids who put in a lot of work in the winter are going to do very well,” junior Brandon Rosner said.

The meet is going to serve as a reality check for the athletes. It will show how the season is going to start off for the kids. Maybe it will even help the athletes set goals for the rest of the season.

“I’m excited for the meet because I can finally see where my times are at earlier in the season,” Rosner said.
