Hey Seniors! It’s time to start thinking about the All-Knighter.  To ensure that we have reserved your gifts, please make sure you have paid in full by April.  There are also permission and medical forms to fill out.  Stop by the Attendance Office and talk to Mrs. Balch about it. 3/31 Gannon

2013 Prom: Prom is on Saturday, April 20th at 6:00 p.m. at the St. Charles Convention Center. Prom tickets will be sold on the following dates before school 6:50 a.m.-7:10a.m., during all lunches, and after school from 2:20p.m.-2:45p.m.  Students who have fines will not be able to purchase tickets until the fines have been paid. A guest form must be filled out for any guest who does not attend FHN- forms will be available outside room 8 and in the main office.

 

April 2-5th for $70

Please keep in mind Prom is a formal occasion. Denim is not appropriate for Prom. Appropriate attire for gentlemen: tuxedos, suits, or coats and ties. Appropriate attire for ladies: evening gowns, evening pant suits, dresses that do not have a plunging neckline, open on the sides, expose the midriff, or have backs that drop below the waistline. Save the Date: FHSD to Host Appliance and Electronics Recycling Event on April 6-The Francis Howell School District, in partnership with the Midwest Recycling Center, will be hosting a free community-wide appliance and electronics recycling event on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the FHSD Burbes Service Center located at 4606 Central School Road in St. Charles. 4/6 Henry

The Francis Howell School District had snow days on Feb. 21, Feb. 22 and March 25. The make-up days will be May 23, May 24 and May 28. Please note that the early release days scheduled for May 21 and May 22 will now be held on May 24 (early release for secondary) and May 28 (early release for elementary and secondary), pending any additional snow days.  Click here to view the snow make-up schedule on the calendar. 5/24 Henry

Please make note that the State Testing Program, End-Of-Course (E.O.C.) Assessment will occur April 15 through May 3, 2013.  All students enrolled in Algebra I, Biology, English I, English II, Government, and American History classes will be taking part in the E.O.C. Assessment Program.  Marketing 2 students will also be testing during this time period.  The school day will be modified using a block schedule, but all academic classes will be offered sometime throughout the week.   The regular class schedule will take place on Fridays – April 19, April 26 and May 3. Students who are absent during testing days will be required to make up any portion of the E.O.C. Assessment that they missed on Friday, April 19, April 26 or May 3 during the school day. Any students that attend Lewis and Clark Technical School will be excused from attendance at tech school as they will be required to attend assigned classes at Francis Howell North.  Tech school will not count E.O.C. testing days as unexcused absences.  Students who are off campus due to Tech School, Work-Program, Dual Enrollment, etc., need not report to campus during their off campus class hours but MUST stay for the entire length of all their scheduled class hours.  Please remember that the E.O.C. Assessment Program is a State of Missouri requirement that all schools and designated students must participate in.  Copies of the class schedule during EOC testing are available in the main office.  All activity eligibility requirements related to school Attendance will be in full-effect during E.O.C. testing. 

 

~~ Due to E.O.C. testing throughout the school, classes WILL NOT be interrupted in order for students to be called out of class for any reason. Students will need to pick up deliveries from parents during passing periods.  Any student requiring release from school during any period in which testing is occurring must bring a written note from a parent to the Attendance Office before the start of the school day so that the student may receive an early release pass.  5/3 Wade

FHSD to Host Drugs and Your Family Town Hall

The Spring Musical High School Musical opens on Thursday April 4th.  Performances are April 4th, 5th, and 6th at 700 pm in the theatre.  Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday and are $6 in advance and $7 at the door.  We hope to see you there. 4/6 Tandler

Congratulations
Congrats to the Raven robotics team that ended the qualification rounds with an 11 – 1 record as the number one seed into the final rounds.  They won both quarter and semifinal rounds and lost in the final match placing second overall.  This is the second year they finished in second place at this regional event.  More significantly, they also won the major design award for the building of their robot.  The team will be traveling to Terre Haute the first week in April to compete in a second regional match. 3/28 Krueger

*The Francis Howell North Journalism Department learned of some recent honors over spring break from three different organizations.

 

The National Scholastic Press Association named their Pacemaker Finalists for Online News Sites. FHNtoday.com was named a finalist in the large school category. The Pacemaker is widely regarded as the top staff award for scholastic media. Pacemaker winners will be announced at the JEA/NSPA National Convention next month in San Francisco. You can find the full list of Pacemaker finalists here:http://www.studentpress.org/nspa/winners/opm13.html The 2012 Excalibur yearbook was named a Pacemaker finalist a few weeks ago as well and the staff will find out its status in San Francisco as well.

 

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association announced its top staff awards as well, the Crown Awards. This year the Excalibur yearbook earned a Silver Crown and the North Star newsmagazine earned a Gold Crown. In addition, senior Liz Leonard was awarded a Certificate of Merit through the CSPA Gold Circle Awards in the Sports Photography category for a volleyball photo she took last year.

 

Finally, the local St. Louis scholastic journalism group, the Sponsors of School Publications of St. Louis, held their annual conference at Webster University over break. The day was highlighted by keynote speaker Mary Beth Tinker of the landmark Supreme Court case Tinker v. Des Moines. At the conference, numerous staffs and individuals were honored for their work. Awards included: In the publication critiques, FHNtoday,com, the North Star newsmagazine and the Excalibur yearbook all earned the highest critique honor of Superior. Individually, the following students won awards as well: Excellent – Christina Desalvo in Individual Broadcast News, Natalie Mueller in Yearbook Feature Copy, Drake Kruep in Sports Design, Andrew Cline in Sports Copy,  and Sophie Gordon in Feature Story. Superiors – Jon Doty in Individual Broadcast Sports, Liz Leonard in Yearbook Student Life Design, Amanda Stallings in News Story, Daniel Bodden in Feature Story, Dan Stewart in Newspaper Review, Matt Krieg in Newspaper Feature Photography, Maddie Hiatt in Newspaper Inside Page Design, Murphy Riley in Double Truck Design, Sophie Gordon in Double Truck Design, Morgan O’Neill in Double Truck Design, and Cameron McCarty in Double Truck Design. Highlighting the awards were two Best of Show finishes for Abby West in Sports Design and Tannyr Seddon and Nick Bussel in Opinions Design. 4/2 Manfull

Bringing food to school for Students-due to district policy, you may only bring in food for your student. Thanks for your help in this matter.
Parents should be mindful not to plan vacations or trips prior to May 31, 2013 (the last scheduled snow makeup day for the 2012-2013 school year). Second semester exams are given during the last three scheduled days of school.  Taking exams early (prior to the scheduled exam dates) is not permitted to insure the integrity of common finals. 5/31 Administrators

Several scholarships are available in the guidance office. 

 

The applications for the FACS scholarships offered by Sodexo are available in the guidance office or you can get one from Mrs. Just in room 2.  Sodexo has made available five $1000 scholarships again for the 2012-2013 school year.  To be eligible for one of these scholarships you must have participated in the FACS department at some point throughout your high school career.  Completed applications are due back to the guidance department by April 5th.  The 5 winners will be notified in May. 4/5 Just

The FHN Athletic Booster Club is providing $8,000 in Scholarships this year to senior student athletes. These scholarships are open to all senior children of FHN Athletic Booster Club Members. The applicant must have participated in at least one sport/activity sponsored by the FHN Athletic Booster Club. This includes Knightline, cheerleaders, and team managers. Applicants parents or legal guardians must be current members of the FHN Athletic Booster Club. Please see the FHN Guidance Office for complete criteria and application.
