Spanish Clubs Kicks Off the New School Year

On Friday August 16, Spanish Club hosted their first event of the year at Laurel Park. This was the second year Spanish club has come together to kick off the school year.

“This fiesta was a great way for us to see who is really interested in being involved with Spanish Club for the rest of the year,” senior Matt Schneider said.

Old and new members were all welcomed to enjoy fun and games like whiffle ball, frisbee, and sand volleyball. Members also played a game called toxic trashcan where they would link arms in a circle and try to avoid touching the trash can.

“[My favorite part] was playing toxic trashcan because everyone was involved and having fun together,” junior Zach Valleroy said.

Not only were there games involved but some Mexican dishes as well. The table was overflowing with chips, salsa, and deserts like brownies and cookies. Zoe Lawsom made brownies that had cinnamon with ancho chilies, a traditional Mexican desert.

“My favorite food was the brownies that Zoe made,” freshman Alyssa Gill said. “They were delicious!”

This was just the start to the upcoming events Spanish Club will have this year. After hosting six events last year sponsor Brian Santos has high expectations for this year.

“I really enjoy seeing everyone come together and celebrating Spanish culture and seeing everyone have fun,” Santos said. “I like bringing people together to do lots of fun activities and I like to see the great leadership of my older students.”
