On Sept 4 StuCo had their first meeting of the year in the Commons during homeroom. Because of a

decision by teachers, StuCo is now able to hold meetings in homeroom rather than first, second, or third hour.

“We as officers and cabinet members are in higher level classes, so we assume our members are in higher level classes,” StuCo President Rowan Pugh said. “It would be more inconvenient for them to miss those classes than homeroom.”

Although this meeting is a first for everyone, StuCo has acquired many new members this year which include anyone from elected homeroom representatives to students who submitted applications were also invited to the meeting. New officers and cabinet members also played a key role in the crucial first meeting.

“I’m excited to see what the new officers do differently,” StuCo sponsor Jani Wilkens said. “I’m most excited that we have a lot of new officers and cabinet members and I want to see what new things they bring to the table.”

According to Pugh, the first meeting was run as an introduction to StuCo and explained what kinds of things to expect as members. Members were also informed of certain requirements that must upheld by members such as GPA of at least 2.5 and 10 service hours per quarter. StuCo members also spent time briefly discussing the StuCo Constitution.

“It gives everyone an idea of what they need to do to stay in StuCo,” junior and general StuCo member Emma Cleaveland said. “If you’re a freshman it also shows what you have to do to get involved.”

After the introductions, preparation for Homecoming was immediately discussed. While the theme for the dance has been decided, members got the chance to sign up for specific Homecoming committees. Throughout the planning process, members will get to do everything from voting on spirit week themes, to setting up decorations, to pitching ideas.

“I’m looking forward to getting more involved in the school and setting up for Homecoming because it’s fun to see how everything comes together in the end.” Cleaveland said.
