This past weekend, Oct. 6, the FHN Marching Band, KnightPride,  had another double header and competited at FZN and United Methodist University. The band performed The Boxer, as they will continue performing it throughout the season. The band took home third at FZN, and first in their division at United Methodist.

“Our scoring was accurate to the judges ratings,” senior Chris Steimel, a band member, said. “Everyone gave their all and it really showed.”

According to members of the band, they are progressively getting better, mainly due to practice and learning what they’re doing wrong at competitions and taking the feedback they receive from judges and applying the feedback they get to their show. They added new visuals in order to improve their show.

“For our latest performance, we had a couple of new visuals, so we were definitely able to do well in general effect,” saxophone section leader Sammie Savala, junior, said.

The band has competed very well according to a few of its members and is looking forward to their upcoming competition. They are hosting a competition at Francis Howell North next weekend, Saturday, Oct. 12.

“I think that we have done very well so far this season, but I still think we have room to improve and reach our full potential,” drum major Emma Pursley, junior, said. “Walking off the field after we perform, we all feel good, but there hasn’t been that moment when we step off that field, and it’s been amazing. We still don’t feel any regrets about our performances though.”
