On Saturday Feb.1, students gathered at FHN to have the annual Snowcoming dance. Student Council decided to stick with the usual theme of “Neon Knights” for the dance. Unlike the homecoming dance, Snowcoming is a less formal dance and is

held in FHN’s Commons.

This year’s dance was similar to previous school dances, but with stricter rules. New dance rules were revealed and demonstrated at the Pep Assembly on Thursday. One of the rules wasn’t necessarily new, but was planned to be enforced strictly at the dance. As usual, students were told to follow the dress code, but the two new rules were expected to be followed as well. These rules included:

1. No dancing with others without their consent.

2. No dancing with someone with your body less than a 45 degree angle.

According to some students, the rules didn’t go as well as expected and were not followed the whole time.

“I thought it was a little pointless because it seemed like not many people at the dance listened to it,” freshman Victoria Fasnacht said. “But I think when it was actually enforced, it really helped make it more enjoyable for the surrounding students.”

Snowcoming court was announced later that night, with four nominees from each grade, excluding seniors with six nominees. Out of the seniors on the court, Ethan Bond and Crystal Webb were titled Snowcoming king and queen.

“I thought it was really cool to be nominated,” Snowcoming court nominee Samantha Weyrich said. “It was also really exciting to see who won king and queen. Overall, it was a really cool experience.”

The dance was planned to go until 10 p.m., but was cut short due to inclement weather. Snowcoming ended at 8:45 p.m. to ensure students can get home safely. Although the dance was cut over an hour early, StuCo member Nicole Morse still believes students were still able to enjoy the dance.

“I think that [the weather] didn’t have too bad of an effect on the dance,” Morse said. “Everyone was in a huge rush because the roads were getting worse, but other than that, I think it was a really successful dance.”
