Between the disturbing storyline and the nail-biting highlights, American Horror Story could be called this decade’s

“Twilight Zone”. With a cast that includes Emma Roberts, Jessica Lange, and Evan Peters, this erotic thriller is my favorite show on Netflix.

The first few episodes of Season One are, for lack of better words, bothersome. The racy topics that are introduced in the pilot are enough to scare someone away from the show. If you get past those few details the rest of series is smooth sailing, mentally that is. My emotional attachment to Evan Peters is typical for a “fangirl” like myself. Each new character that Peters plays is a new reason to love him, even though those characters often have psychopathic homicidal tendencies. Tate, from season one, (“Murder House”), is my favorite so far. One of the best parts about the show is that each new season brings new plots, settings, and characters. “Asylum”, the second season, set in the late 1960’s, offered Jessica Lange’s best performance. Lange’s character, Sister Jude, was cynical and often had a twist of comical sarcasm. Lange is another reason why I love the show.

Unfortunately the third season, (“Coven”), has not yet been released on Netflix. The new season introduced Emma Roberts, playing my least favorite character, the malignant Madison Montgomery. Roberts and her character are easy to hate, specifically her engagement with co-star, Evan Peters, who I hate to see with anyone else; The pain she inflicts on multiple characters in the show also makes me hate her. Even with the heartache and the cruelty the show can make you feel, I always seem to find myself crawling back, desperate for more.
