Weekly Wyer: Supreme Spring/Summer 14

Supreme, a streetwear powerhouse, released the preview for their spring/summer collection this past Monday. To the naked eye, this collection will be a bit disappointing, but to someone who knows what they’re doing, these pieces will be classics.

Supreme is always on point with their jerseys, and this season is no exception. This season, there are six jerseys, three football tops (including the Playboy collaboration), one soccer jersey, one baseball jersey, and one

hockey top. Out of all the jerseys, the soccer jersey is definitely the cleanest. The jersey features a striped collar, solid color base, and the classic Supreme Arabic logo.

The t-shirts this season aren’t really up to par, but as of late with Supreme, that’s been expected. The best tee out of the collection has to be the “Un-American” tee. The artwork looks somewhat similar to the Daniel Johnston collaboration tees from spring/summer 2012, which was one of my favorite seasons.

I think Supreme’s weaker point this season has to be its outerwear, but that should be somewhat expected, as the weather for this season doesn’t really call for outerwear. The outerwear this season consist of 19 pieces,

ranging from denim coaches jackets, fur lined pullovers, and half zip pullovers, to fishtail parkas, trench coats, and the classic MA-1 jacket. The biggest downfall of the outerwear is both poor design and over branding. Pieces like the taped seam jacket and the F-1 pullover were ruined by the branding on the jacket, but just like the majority of this collection, the pieces can be interpreted many ways. What I may see as the weakest point of the collection may be someone’s highlight; That’s the beauty of Supreme. The brand is just so versatile,  and they make something for everyone. While the outerwear may be lacking this season, there’s no doubt that the cleanest piece of outerwear has to be the “Blood Chit” MA-1 reversible jacket. MA-1s are always a classic, and Supreme’s minimal branding and their quality makes for a killer combo.

The piece that’s caused quite a stir this season is the Le Bain pullover. Similar to the Power, Corruption, Lies pullover from spring/summer 2013, the hoodie features an all-over print of  Édouard Manet’s “Le déjeuner sur l’herbe,” French for “The Luncheon on the Grass.” The piece will not look good on everyone but will look great on a select few. Only time will tell.

This season has a ton of potential and hopefully, the collaborations this season will also be up to par. There may be a few out there pieces, but overall, the season will be pretty decent. Peep the spring/summer lookbook below and be sure to check the online store next Thursday, February 27 to purchase the first drop of the collection.
