Snow Days

With the weather turning cooler, we are reminded that winter will be here before long, including the frozen white stuff (snow) that is both looked forward to and dreaded.  This is a reminder that we have snow days built into our school calendar, and we request that vacations not be scheduled on these days when we may have school to make up for missed days due to snow or other inclement weather.  Make up dates are listed below:

FHSD to Host Realtors’ Luncheon on March 13

Local realtors are invited to join the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) for a complimentary luncheon on Thursday, March 13, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The luncheon will be held in the Commons of Francis Howell High School, located at 7001 Highway 94 South in St. Charles. 2014 Prom: Prom is on Saturday, May 17that 6:00 p.m. at the St. Charles Convention Center. Prom tickets will be sold on the following dates before school 6:50 a.m.-7:10a.m., during all lunches, and after school from 2:20p.m.-2:45p.m.  Students who have fines will not be able to purchase tickets until the fines have been paid. A guest form must be filled out for any guest who does not attend FHN- forms will be available outside room 8 and in the main office. Guest tickets must be purchased in room 8 before or after school during ticket sales.

*“The FHN speech team started the postseason with an outstanding performance in the MSHSAA district tournament at Parkway South on February 28-March 1.  A school-record 18 students qualified for the MSHSAA state tournament, which will take place April 25-26 at the University of Missouri-Columbia.  Topping the squad’s success was the first-place finish by the Readers Theatre group, with a cast of 16:

Caleb Black, Marygrace Cole, Sophie Gordon, Abigail Griffin, Alex Groenweghe, Lauren Hogan, Lavanya Kolluru, Molly Kube, Zoe Lawson, Bre Relleke,  Sami Schmid, Matt Schneider, Tessa Smith, Brittany Steck, Miles Thies, and Lexi Wilkinson.  Additional state-qualifying performances came from Caleb Black in Humorous Interpretation, Gabby Jones in Poetry Reading, Mensur Koso in International Extemporaneous Speaking, Molly Kube in Dramatic Interpretation, Brittany Steck in Storytelling, and the Duet Acting team of Matt Schneider and Brittany Steck.  Also receiving awards as quarterfinalists in Public Forum Debate were Tyler Ludwig and Tessa Smith.” 3/4 Janes

Math Club/Mu Alpha Theta will meet before and after school Tuesday March 4 in room 204.  New members welcome.  Current members need to attend to hear important information about points.  3/4   Stratton
Spring Sports practices/tryouts begin on Monday, March 4thd.  All students need a current physical dated after February, 1 2013.  All necessary tryout paperwork is available outside of the activities office.  Paperwork can be turned into the coach on the first day of practice.  Concussion testing (ImPact) is mandatory for baseball, girls’ soccer and Track (pole vaulters and jumpers).  All freshmen, juniors and new students to a sport need the ImPact test.  ImPact testing from the fall or winter sports season will be accepted.  Dates for the ImPact test are available in the FHN Enews.  Spring Sports include:  Baseball, Girls’ Soccer, Boys’ Volleyball, Boys’ & Girls’ Track, Boys’ Golf & Boys’ Tennis 3/4
Dodgeball Tournament-Sunday, March 9that 10am in the FHN Gymnasium. The cost to play is $10 per person. If you would like more information please see any FHN Track Coach!! 3/9 Louis-Bauer
BRAIN INJURIES/CONCUSSIONS

The Francis Howell School District is committed to ensuring that student participants are properly treated for brain injuries/concussions.

Students participating in the following sports and activities will complete ImPACT testing: color guard, football, cheerleading,soccer,

softball, basketball, winter guard, wrestling, track and field (vaulters and high jumpers only) and baseball. Student athletes will receive the

ImPACT neurocognitive assessment prior to initial participation in the aforementioned sports and post-brain injury, if necessary. After a

brain injury (concussion), students must be within an acceptable range of their baseline score to return to play. The post-injury score will be

reviewed by the District’s contracted sports medicine physician. The student athlete must receive clearance from the sports medicine

physician prior to returning to practice and/or competition.

 

Testing will be on the following dates in room 49.
