Covington’s Covers: Before I Fall

Author: Lauren Oliver

Pages: 496

Genre: Young Adultbefore-i-fall-bookcover

Publisher: Harper Collins

Released: 2010

This book was gifted to me in more ways than on. Before I Fall starts out with superficial leading character, Samantha Kingston. She lives the typical valley girl lifestyle and even has a heartthrob boyfriend. She’s selfish, arrogant and most of all, popular. She has the world at her fingertips. Just until it comes crumbling down, one of her bests days turns out to be her last… so she thinks. Samantha has to relive her last day for seven days, each day brings Samantha new wisdom and knowledge of her death. This book is a fast paced, seat-gripping novel filled with life lessons. It gave me a new appreciation for the importance of family and friends.

This book is one of the fastest reads I’ve ever experienced. It had me emotionally attached to some of the characters, like no other book I’ve ever read. When the book was finished I was sad that there was no sequel, although at the same time the ending was unexpected and I was overall satisfied. Through the book you witness the main character Sam change in ways you would have never expected. She realizes the importance of her family and how significant some things in her life really are.

Yes, this book is very similar to the book and major motion picture; Before I Fall but it has a more indepth plot, connecting more with the characters came easier for me with this book. The imagery was powerful and the conflicts Sam faces are captivating to say the least.

I’d recommend this book to anyone who enjoys phenomenons and the paranormal, with of course the teen love drama twist.
