As the end of the college football season draws near, all that remains are the conference championship games. There are six teams vying for the top spots in the country, but only the top four move on to the inaugural college football playoff. Each of these teams has a difficult task ahead of them, but none of these teams can be counted in or out just yet. Here’s a quick breakdown of the top six teams’ conference/championship games:

(6)Ohio State vs. (11)Wisconsin- Big Ten

This game was supposed to be close no matter what. Now that J.T. Barrett, Ohio State’s quarterback, is out for the rest of the season, it is up to Cardale Jones to carry the load for his team’s offense. Barrett was supposed to be the backup coming in to this season, but he took over after Braxton Miller got injured. Now, Ohio State puts their third-string quarterback up against the stout Wisconsin defense and the explosive Badger offense, led by running back Melvin Gordon. Needless to say, the Badgers of Wisconsin will topple the Buckeyes of Ohio State in this Big Ten Championship, ending Ohio State’s run for a playoff spot.

(5)Baylor vs. (9)Kansas State- Big 12 (not a championship game)

This is going to be the closest of these six games, and it will be a barn burner. Just to clarify for my use of a semi-outdated term, they are not actually going to burn barns. They are simply going to score a lot of points. The outcome of this game will not be decided until late in the fourth quarter, as Jake Waters will throw a late touchdown for the K-State Wildcats that Bryce Petty of the Baylor Bears will not be able to match. This will, of course, give Kansas State the huge upset win in this non-championship game in the Big 12 Conference, knocking out Baylor from the top four, barring a huge TCU loss.

(4)TCU vs. Iowa State- Big 12 (not a championship game)

Sadly for Baylor, Texas Christian University will not lose this game against unranked Iowa State. Not only is this going to be a tear in the eyes of Baylor fans, but TCU will completely demolish this weak Iowa State team. While the Baylor-Kansas State game will be the closest game in this set, this will be the largest margin of victory. The Horned Frogs will outlast the Cyclones in Texas. This enormous margin of victory will surely secure TCU’s spot in the college football playoffs.

(3)Oregon vs. (8)Arizona- Pacific-12

Here’s another high-scoring matchup in the realm of college football championships. Oregon is the most explosive offense in college football, led by the impeccable legs and right arm of Marcus Mariota, while Arizona has thrived off of their fantastic defense and an offense that can keep pace with almost any team in college football, just not the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks will air out the pass and soar over the Wildcats to lock up Oregon’s spot in the top four, and push them one step closer to a national championship.

(2)Florida State vs. (12)Georgia Tech- Atlantic Coast Conference

Now here’s a football game. Both of these teams won their divisions fairly handily, and now they meet for what is sure to be an action-packed ACC Championship. One question persists about Florida State that will determine the outcome of this football game. Which Seminoles team will we see on the field- the team that has won each of its last 28 games or the team that has only won its last three games, all against unranked opponents, by an average of four points? Another point of this game intrigues me. This is Florida State’s third consecutive trip to the ACC Championship game, defeating Duke 45-7 last season and Georgia Tech 21-15 in 2012. It is rare to see extended success in college football, even the smallest success, but Florida State has done it, and they will continue their winning streak against the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech this week.

(1)Alabama vs. (14)Missouri- Southeastern Conference

Speaking of extended success, Alabama is playing in the championship game of the most prestigious conference in all of college football- the SEC. They will face the Missouri Tigers as the heavy favorite, projected to win by 14.5 points. That’s an extremely large margin for a game that is supposed to be equal. Sadly, this one is not. Don’t let my words deceive you, though. Missouri has a very good football team. Through the regular season, they proved to be the 14 best team out of the 128 in Division I college football. This will not be enough to give Mizzou too much of a chance in this game. The tandem of Blake Sims and Amari Cooper of the Crimson Tide will simply be too much for the Tigers’ young secondary. Alabama will clearly win this game, leaving the Tigers to the wolves unless they can pull off of the most shocking and unimaginable upsets in college football.

After all is said and done, the top four teams in college football will remain the same, with TCU holding down their fourth spot, Oregon at third, and Florida State finishing just behind Alabama and second and first, respectively.
