    Parent Teacher Conferences

It is that time of year again where we open our doors for the annual parent teacher conferences. While in fall they are held with the mass of teachers spread out across the main gym, this IMG_9987semester they have all teachers set inside their own individual classrooms. This makes it more personal for teachers to have one on one conversations while having their classroom to show the parents what they are working on and have easier access to all of their supplies and materials they use in class.

“There is an efficiency when they are in the gymnasium but in their rooms there is a little more privacy,” an FHN parent said.

This year was the first year to have Jeff Blankenship be in charge of conferences and in between every conference he makes minor adjustments making conferences as good as they can be in terms for the experience for the parents.

“It’s just a different feel; the turnout is a little different from fall to spring,” Blankenship said. “The idea is it gives a different opportunity for different kind of conversations.”

According to math teacher Shelbi Dillon fall seems to have a higher attendance but this year they took records of how many parents show up to see which conferences are more attended and what can they do to be changed.

With another conference a success parents can hope to see more improvements to make it more convenient in the years to come. FHN parents asked to have a link on the website to get maps of the school onto their phones. In the mean time the school has National Honor Society members walking around school offering help to any parents who are possibly in need of it.

“This is a night for them to be invited into our building,” said Blankenship. “We want the experience to be good. We want them to feel like they were welcomed here and they got what they needed out of the night.”
