Mole Day [Photo Story]

Chemistry teacher Donna Malkmus ties together junior Olivia Sontheimer and freshman Stephanie Monson for the Mole Day scavenger hunt on October 23. Partners for the scavenger hunt are tied together to make it more challenging and fun. The teachers used to tie ankles instead of wrists until someone fell down the stairs.

Mole Day is celebrated annually on Oct. 23 from 6:02 a.m. to 6:02 p.m. Mole Day was created to commemorate Avogadro’s number, which is a basic measuring unit in chemistry. Schools throughout the world do various activities related to chemistry or moles on Mole Day. At Francis Howell North, there is a mole making contest and scavenger hunt.
