Starting the Year Off with a Jump

featureOn Thurs, Nov. 10, Deca is hosting their annual Deca Jump-off. This year they’re putting all the funds raised toward the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Last year FHN raised enough funds to cover medical supplies for a week of MDA summer camp.

“It’s just always an exciting time to see it the seniors can overtake the staff,” Deca Advisor Melissa Trochim said.

During the Jump-off the underclassmen play a basketball game against the juniors, usually the teams are picked by whoever wants to play. No basketball players are allowed to play on the team, but they are allowed to coach. After the underclassmen game, the juniors play the staff in an intense game.

“I’m so excited to see the events that we have been planning, that are going to be happening during halftime and the timeouts,” Junior Deca officer Madison Clifton said. “Hopefully we will raise a lot more money than last year to supply more medical supplies and be able to send more people to camp. That would be cool and exciting.”

This year tickets to the jump-off are three dollars which all goes towards MDA. The new step team and knightline are performing during the halftimes of each game. The Junior vs. Underclassmen game starts at 6 p.m.. and the Senior vs. Staff game starts at 7 p.m. During timeouts there will be a minute to win it contest, members of Deca will run around the gym and bleachers and try to collect money in buckets, which will all be donated to MDA.

“I’m excited that we can keep helping this foundation every year, so we can see the growth in the summer camp,” Senior Deca President Jessie Biondo said. “It is nice to see our school come together as a whole and fundraise for something that we can help with. Hopefully we can send kids to the summer camp and be able to supply medical supplies again.
