After working for about a month on his project, senior Sohail Jchaj hopes to release his first mixtape.

“I’m excited for the fact that he put so much work into it and he’s excited as well,” friend of Sohail’s, Jake Beckmann said.

Currently Sohail has been putting final touches onto his mixtape by finishing lyrics and to make them flow in the tracks as fluently as he can. While he has been working on the mixtape itself very recently, he has had plans to create this EP for a majority of this year.

“I’ve always wanted to make a mixtape,” Sohail said.” I love Hip-Hop and Rap. I’m a Hip-Hop head and this is the year of Hip-Hop. The discography of 2015 is phenomenal. That’s why I started it.”

Over summer of this year, Sohail planned to buy all the equipment to create his first project. Unfortunately this did not come together as he had hoped. But by Fall Break he had all the equipment he needed. For his project though he is trying to keep it solely focused on his own talents rather than bringing in other people to contribute to the tracks.

“Your first mixtape should be all you,” Sohail said. “It showcases your abilities as a solo artist.”

Sohail’s main goal with his first songs is to showcase the importance of lyrics in music. His belief is that rap should revolve around the flow of the words as he cites rap as Rhythm and Poetry. According to Sohail, many artist nowadays don’t work on the lyrics and just focus on a catchy beat. He wants to avoid this and create his own style.

“Everybody raps now,” Sohail said. “You hear about mixtapes and bars everywhere. All these kids are making music and most of it is rap. But they aren’t doing anything that stands out or get themselves out there. They are doing it wrong. I want to do it write.”

Rap and Hip-Hop is something that Sohail has always loved and it is something he wants to keep creating. He hopes to release his album by the end of the year and share it with his friends and family.

“I’m not trying to get big off this,” Sohail said. “I’m doing this as a hobby but I also want to show my skills. If I blew up that would be amazing, but I just want to do this as a hobby.”
